In my home state of TN, local PTA meetings were disrupted by not only people trying to ban books, but people threatening doctors if the doctors suggested that maybe kids should wear masks at school during a pandemic. They followed these doctors out to their cars, yelling at them, and threatening to kill them. Some of those doctors left the state. It's no wonder people don't want to get involved in local government.
